Snorkel or Dive Monkey Point, near Guana Island, British Virgin Islands (BVI)
|
Monkey Point is located at the Southern tip of Guana Island. The Photo above labeled "Monkey Point" shows you this little snorkelling and diving heaven in the British Virgin Islands. Easily sail to this site and hook one of the many National Park mooring buoy. It is a requirement that you must utilize the National Park Authority moorings balls (orange with yellow floating line) and not attempt to anchor. The fish here are large in size, like Tarpon 5 feet long and many sea turtle that call this area home. If this area was not a protected national park a fisherman might call it a dream catch. Lots of friendly yellowtail snappers, grunts and jacks. The fish in this area are not shy and some time come so close to you that you can almost put out your hand and gently touch one. Guana Island is a private island but you can utilize the beach as the laws of the British Virgin Islands makes it mandatory that all beaches be public and given access. The small beach area is excellent and great lunch stop. Please be cautious for when there is a north swell running the anchorage can be uncomfortable.
