Snorkel or Dive Manchioneel Bay, located northwest shore from Cooper Island, British Virgin Islands (BVI)

Manchioneel Bay, is the name of this beach. What is a manchioneel you might ask? Well at some beaches in the BVI and usually close to the shore line are these tall trees that you may be able to find shade beneath. They carry green and light yellow leaves. This tree know as the MANCHIONEEL TREE bares a fruit that looks similar to an apple but at the size of a plum. Eating or biting on this fruit may cause poisoning. Common symptoms are burning of the mouth and swollen tongue. There is no harm when shading under these trees but it is not advise to do so when raining. The manchioneel tree is popular in the Virgin Islands among locals.

Manchioneel Bay - was named after this tree with poisonous fruit. Manchioneel Bay is a popular spot for charter yachts. Moorings are plentiful so there is no need to try and anchor in the slippery sea grass bed below. The area sea grass at Manchioneel Bay makes for a good possibility of spotting turtles. Didn't see a sea turtle today ? no problem, overnight at Manchioneel Bay and dive or snorkel again tomorrow. The Cooper Island Beach Club and restaurant is there to handle all your needs.
