There are four main ferry services with regular trips between Road Town, Tortola and Charlotte Amalie, ST. Thomas. Native Son Inc, Tortola Fast Ferry (aka Smith's Ferry Services Ltd), Speedy's Ferry Services and Road Town Fast Ferry.
Please Note that their are two Fast Ferry Companies
Road Town Fast Ferry - Caribbean Maritime Excursions, Inc
Tortola Fast Ferry - Smith's Ferry Services Ltd
We used the name Smith Ferry in our schedule table to make it easier to differentiate but when you get to the actual ferry counter you must distinguish the two ferry companies.
Some ferries on this route after leaving Road Town, Tortola stop at West End- Tortola ferry port before going on to Charlotte Amalie, ST.Thomas and also stop at West End-Tortola on the way back to Road Town, Tortola.
what does this mean for you. Well these stops are to pick up passenger and cargo before ongoing to the final destination. This increases the time it take between the two ports. Where as you might have consider 50 between ports you may now have to consider 1hour 20 minutes in the plans for your trip

Reservations are not required for ferry travel, just show up 20 minutes before travel time.

Taxis are at the ferry terminal on both Tortola and ST.Thomas
No car rental companies are stationed at the ferry docks in Road Town, Tortola but by making reservations rental companies will meet you at the ferry terminal and process your rental on site. see Tortola car rental companies here
$5 per person departure tax must be paid when leaving Tortola
